Vietnam War Home Movies

A compilation of short home movies filmed by 6 different servicemen during the war, with footage of Tien Sha, Danang, Chu Lai, Liberty Bridge, Saigon, and more.

 

"Vietnam Digest" includes the following films:

"Jerry's Escapades" - filmed at Camp Tien Sha and vicinity, showing shots at the base and footage filmed while driving through the surrounding towns and countryside. You'll see panoramic views of Danang harbor and military complexes and shots filmed while driving past a burned trailer and damaged barracks buildings.

"Danang Duty" - includes shots of a young Vietnamese woman posing for the camera by an old villa, and footage filmed at the airbase of aircraft taking off and landing. You'll see men lined up at an outdoor ceremony with a large cake on a table, a Marine receiving a field promotion & getting punched on both arms, and a Marine setting a charge on a mine and a shot of it blowing up.

"Liberty Bridge" - footage filmed during the building of the bridge over the Song Thu Bon near Hoi An, approximately 30km from Danang. You'll see footage from the early stages of construction, with lots of equipment and bridge pilings on the shore. The men are watching airstrikes on the far side of the river. Later shots show how construction has progressed, with the bridge built out to the water's edge.

"Chu Lai" - includes footage of the airstrip and jets landing, shots of the beach, sunset on the water, military traffic driving by - including M-50 Ontos, tanks, trucks and jeeps.

"Chu Lai Grunts" - shows shots of the base, living area and sandbag bunkers, nice panoramic footage of the base from a distant hill, and shots of soldiers goofing off for the camera.

"Saigon, Gia Dinh & Vicinity" - includes footage of a sign in a field at Tan Son Nhut showing where enemy soldiers were killed during Tet, street scenes in Saigon, battle-damaged buildings, shots of a CH-54 "Skycrane" slingloading a CH-47 Chinook, a crowd of Vietnamese civilians receiving their pay at the base, and more.

The DVD has a soundtrack of AFVN radio shows.
