"204th FDC"
Korean War Home Movies

Color home movie footage filmed by a soldier serving with the 204th FA Bn (Utah National Guard) in his battery's Fire Direction Center during 1951-1952.

You'll see scenes filmed on a US base -- the soldier and his family before he ships out. Then in Yokohama, Japan he goes sight-seeing in the city, visits a park, watches a sidewalk entertainer, and films the outside of a US Army Fire Station.

In Korea he films a C-46 Commando buzzing low over his camp in the hills, and some footage of Seoul -- panning views from rooftop level, and street scenes. You'll see him using trench binoculars and other equipment inside a bunker, and driving a Jeep with "Little Joe" painted on it. In camp you'll see the guys tossing a baseball and pitching horse-shoes, and shots of the FDC enclosure (it appears to be a tent shelter erected over the back end of a truck -- a mobile fire direction center), with the 204 FDC sign out front. There is some footage filmed at the ceremonial firing of the 100,000th round fired by the 204th since entering the war. The date was April 30, 1952. You'll see the round brought up to the C Battery area, cradled on a platform in the back of a truck. It is loaded into an M40 155mm gun that has a dragon painted on the side, and -- according to unit history -- the lanyard is pulled by Brigadier General Thomas E. Lewis, Commanding General of I Corps Artillery. More rounds were fired at the same time by A and B Batteries.
