"73rd SAC - Vung Tau"

Home movies filmed at Vung Tau Army Airfield by a member of the 73rd Surveillance Airplane Company during 1967-1968.

The mission of the 73rd SAC was to perform visual, photographic & electronic surveillance of the 3rd & 4th Corps zones of South Vietnam, flying round-the-clock missions in OV-1 Mohawks.

You'll see scenes filmed at VTAAF -- the 73rd's area, including both the old and new hangars, the flightline, Mohawks and other aircraft, the company dogs "Snoopy" and "Rocket", and other areas around the base. You'll take a couple flights on a Mohawk, flying over the countryside and coast, with some great footage of the final approach and landing on runway 18 at Vung Tau. Also includes footage from a ride in a helicopter, shots of noseart on CH-47 Chinooks of the 147th ASHC "Hillclimbers" -- "Pray for Piece", "Nancy", "Snoopy's Place II", and others. There's also some footage of downtown Vung Tau, with shots of store-fronts and bars, including Hope Bar, Capitol Bar, and Chicago Bar.

Some of the identifiable tailnumbers on Mohawks include: 67-18904 / 67-18911
Other footage includes: a burned-up airplane next to burned building at airfield / helicopters: OH-6 Loach, AH-1 Cobra, CH-54 Skycrane / airplanes: C-130 Hercules, C-7 Caribou, C-119 Boxcar, C-123 Provider, etc.

The DVD has a soundtrack of AFVN radio shows.
