"79th Trans. Co. Tuy Hoa"
Vietnam War Home Movies

Home movies filmed by an airman serving with the 79th Transportation Co. at Tuy Hoa during 1971.
Narrated with audio from voice-letters sent home by Sgt. Terry Pace who served with the 15th Aerial Port Squadron at Danang in 1968-69.

The movie begins with the view approaching Tuy Hoa, crossing over the railroad bridge (the vehicle bridge alongside has a large chunk missing from it and is being repaired), and scenes in town: market stalls, civilians with carts and motorcycles, girls buying iced drinks from a vendor, and shots of the pagodas and gardens at the Buddhist Monastery. There are brief scenes of Vietnamese women doing laundry on base and being teased by some of the men. You'll see some of the buildings on the base with Da Bia (gravestone) Mountain in the background. There's a lengthy sequence of footage showing a CH-54 Skycrane moving large blocks or cargo from place to place. Scenes in town include footage of Vietnamese men working in a sheet metal shop, using simple hand tools to expertly shape metal panels, and women shopping for fruits and vegetables.

The cameraman titled the next reel of film "79th Beer Party" -- I think there may be two different parties -- one is a BBQ with a large crowd of men in the compound with some civilians and a band playing, and then another large gathering at a big yellow building -- there are a lot of civilians at this party, including children.

The movie ends with shots of cargo (a wrapped-up helicopter?) being loaded onto a C-141 (serial #65-0272) and leaving, and a beautiful sunset.

Other footage includes:
~ Chop Chai Mountain
~ Colorful bus on side of road "Phan-Rang / Qui Nhon / Tuy Hoa"
~ MP V100 "King Krull" rolling thru town
~ OV-1 Mohawk on the flightline
...and more

The DVD is narrated with audio from Vietnam War era voice-letters.
