"37th ARRS - DANANG"
Vietnam War Home Movies

Color home movie footage filmed by an HH-3E Jolly Green Giant crew member serving with the 37th Aerospace Rescue & Recovery Squadron at DaNang during 1968.
Includes audio from voice-letters mailed home by Lt. Col. Ben Gibson who flew Jolly Green Giants with the 21st Special Operations Squadron at Nakhon Phanom RTAB in Thailand during 1969-70.

The footage filmed at DaNang AB begins with shots of the 366th TFW "Gunfighters" compound and flightline activity, including an HH-43 Huskie helicopter picking up fire-fighting equipment, and men working on a Skyraider with damaged props. There are shots of the 37th ARRS Jolly Green Giant sign announcing "271 Satisfied Customers". You'll look inside the 37th ARRS maintenance hangar, and view the barracks in Gunfighter Village, with each unit's logo painted on the wall -- you can see the 390th "Wild Boars" above the Jolly Green Giant artwork. On the sidewalk are huge green footprints. You'll see a medal presentation ceremony at the hangar and men posing for photos with a life-size Jolly Green Giant statue, pilots getting hosed down with fire-fighting foam as they're paraded down the street in the back of a truck, and rescued pilots celebrating with champagne as they step out of a helicopter. Men pose for photos and look over a damaged Jolly Green after it's dropped off by a CH-54 Sky Crane helicopter. There's aerial footage filmed along the coastline and over DaNang AB, and on a flight out to the US Navy Hospital Ship "Sanctuary".
Other footage includes:
~Close-ups of an AC-47 "Spooky" gunship
~DaNang Theatre "Disneyland East"
