USS NEW JERSEY SHELLBACK INITIATION 1968

Color home movie footage of Shellback Initiation Ceremonies filmed aboard the battleship New Jersey as she crossed the equator on Dec. 15, 1968 during her only Vietnam War cruise.

You'll see footage filmed during the initiation into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of the Deep, as slimy Pollywogs are transformed into trusty Shellbacks -- overseen by King Neptune and his court. There are cross-dressing Beauty Pageant contestants, a red devil, an executioner, a doctor with a large syringe, the Royal Baby with a greasy belly to kiss, tunnels of rotten crud to crawl through, and much more.

The DVD has a soundtrack of audio recorded during a Shellback Initiation on another ship.
