"USMC Da Nang - 1965"
Vietnam War Home Movies

Color home movie footage filmed by C.E. Brown while serving with one of the first US Marine units to arrive at Da Nang in early 1965.

***WARNING: This DVD Contains Graphic Footage ***

You'll see scenes filmed in camp -- shots of an African-American Marine (may be C. E. Brown filmed with his own camera, or a buddy), tent areas, men playing football, Vietnamese woman talking with Vietnamese soldiers, a Marine named Hopkins playing with a pet monkey, and aircraft flying overhead.

***The graphic footage shows a wounded enemy prisoner and a corpse being taken off of a CH-34 helicopter. There are close-up shots of the dead VC's body, and then the corpse is dumped into a trailer and the prisoner is manhandled in along with it.

In Da Nang you'll see some scenes of children at a Catholic church, city street scenes, and civilians.
Back in camp you'll see a handmade sign, "PIG PEN INN", with the Peanuts character -- perhaps our cameraman C. E. Brown was known as Charlie? There are scenes of the guys sitting around enjoying some beer, and dim shots as night falls.
There's panoramic footage of the camp below, filmed from a low hill, and shots of Marines interacting with local Vietnamese women and children.
You'll see another CH-34 Seahorse come in for a landing and Marines removing an old grey-haired man who is blind-folded. Marines appear to question the old man and then talk with a young woman.

The DVD has a soundtrack of AFVN radio shows.
