"VA-145 "SWORDSMEN""

Color home movie footage filmed by Lt. Gene D. Webber, a Skyraider pilot with Navy Attack Squadron 145 aboard the USS Boxer during 1955-56 and the USS Hornet during 1957.

You'll see scenes filmed aboard the Boxer as she leaves Pearl Harbor on a Far East Cruise, with stops in Japan, the Philippines, and Hong Kong -- with lots of flying, carrier landings, replenishment activities and more at sea. There's footage filmed aboard in September of '55 when VA-145 celebrated having compiled a total of 1,097.4 flying hours during day and night, land and sea hops -- an all-time high for a carrier squadron at that time. Pilots also posed for group photos for their cruise book.
The following year aboard the Hornet, VA-145 again visits the Far East, with Task Force 77. There's lots of footage of carrier take-offs and landings of A-1 Skyraiders and F9F-6 Cougars (VF-144), and other aircraft -- plus some footage filmed during shore excursions in Japan and a BBQ on the beach.

The DVD has a soundtrack of 1950s radio shows.
