"VA-165 "BOOMERS""
USS Constellation (CVA-64), 1971-1972

Home movie footage filmed by LtJG Thomas Morio, an A-6 navigator (BN) with VA-165 aboard the USS Constellation on Yankee Station. Filmed during the historic "Cruise Bravo" extension of the Connie's 1971-72 WestPac Cruise .

You'll see rare footage shot by LtJG Morio, who as the Bombardier/Navigator (BN) sitting alongside the pilot, was able to film as they were catapulted off the ship and as they landed -- you'll see how rough these maneuvers were, as he nearly loses control of his camera. He films some amazing footage as their A-6 is refueled by an A-3 Skywarrior of VAQ-130 (Det 1), and shots of other aircraft beside them in the air. There's a lot of footage filmed aboard the "Connie" including flight deck activity, takes-offs, landings, loading of bombs, operation of the arresting gear system, replenishment activity, and more. There's even some brief footage of a fly-over by a Soviet Tu-95 "Bear" bomber.
Other squadrons on this cruise include VF-92 & VF-96 (F-4J Phantom II), VAW-116 (EA-2B Hawkeye), VAQ-130 Det 1 (A-3 Skywarrior), HC-1 Det 3 (SH-3G helicopter), RVAH-11 (RA-5C Vigilante), VA-146 and VA-147 (A-7E Corsair II)
