"CRUISES OF THE USS LAKE CHAMPLAIN (CVS-39)"

Color home movie footage filmed by a sailor, "John" while he was aboard "The Champ" on Caribbean and Med-Cruises, and at NAS Quonset Point, Rhode Island during 1959 and 1960. The Champlain was an Anti-Submarine Carrier, and the last operational US carrier with an axial flightdeck, who's motto was, "The Straightest and the Greatest".

You'll see scenes filmed at NAS Quonset Point -- buildings, flightline, men playing football, and the Champlain in port. There's footage of deck activity at sea, HUP helicopters, launch & recovery activity, shots of The Champ from the air, visits to tropical ports in the Caribbean and towns and ancient ruins in the Mediterranean.
Other footage includes:
~Celebration of "37,000 Landing", with decorated cake
~"Kavanaugh Field" sign

The DVD has a soundtrack of USN recruiting radio shows from the late 1950s.
