"UNTEROFFIZIER KARL LOEWE'S
DEUTSCHLAND"
WWII Home Movies

Color & b/w home movies filmed by Wehrmacht Sergeant Karl Loewe in 1939 and 1940.

Karl filmed scenes of daily life with his family and friends including a visit to the 1939 Technical Fair in Leipzig, the Leipzig Zoo, skiing at various places, and at home in Grainau.

At the Leipziger Messe you'll see equipment displays and signs from such companies as Krupp, Mauser, and Kuxmann & Co., and lots of Nazi banners and flags. There's a line of young identically-dressed men in jackboots followed by young women in matching dresses, marching past Nazi banners. The city of Leipzig is festooned in red/black/white -- pennants hanging from buildings and clusters of swastika flags. There's footage of the Voelkerschlaft Monument and the Mende-Brunnen in Augustusplatz.

Other footage includes skiing (both cross-country and downhill), motorcycle races at a track lined with Nazi banners, Karl (in uniform) walking in the snow with his wife and others, a sheep herder and his flock, women knitting and sewing, Karl in his uniform bringing a letter to his wife, women enjoying a "Kaffee-Klatsch" at an outdoor table, a moving crew unloading furniture from a trailer pulled by a tractor, footage of the Loewe's home in Grainau, their daughter at school, and more.

The DVD has a soundtrack of WWII era music and radio shows.
