"PEDRO 96"
Vietnam War Home Movies

Rare home movie footage of HH-43F No. 63-9715, "Pedro 96", filmed by an airman named John who flew on rescue missions with Det 5 and Det 7, 38th ARS in Quang Tri and Danang during 1965. "Pedro 96" was later shot down and destroyed on May 8, 1967 while rescuing four marines.

You'll see footage of the Quang Tri MACV Detachment area -- buildings, bunkers, guard tower, gate, etc., and scenes of Huskie helicopter #63-9715 on the ground with pilot and crew members standing around and talking. These early scenes are rather grainy and dim because of weather conditions when they were filmed, and cheap film stock. At Danang Airbase you'll see jets on the flightline, work being done in a hangar on an F-102 Delta Dagger , a C-130 with a damaged wing and missing engines, shots of HH-43B no. 59-1571, and men putting on fire gear next to their helicopter. Footage filmed in the air from "Pedro 96" includes shots of other aircraft flying by (another Huskie, an HU-16 Albatross, etc), and the view from above Quang Tri Combat Base, including Sky Raiders landing and taking off, shakey shots of perimeter defenses, and more. Back on the ground you'll see some good shots of the pilot, co-pilot and some of the crew of "Pedro 96". More flight footage is filmed along the coast and inland.

The DVD has a soundtrack of AFVN radio shows.
