"USS RANGER - WESTPAC 1967-68"
Vietnam War Home Movies

Home movie footage filmed aboard the USS Ranger (CVA-61) from mid-1967 to April 1968 during fleet exercises and on her 7th Westpac cruise to Vietnam.

You'll see scenes filmed between June and November 1967 during training and fleet exercise "Moon Festival", including footage of a UH-2C Seasprite turboprop helicopter -- the first deployment of this helicopter on an aircraft carrier. You'll see aircraft fly-bys, a refueling demo for civilians watching from onboard, scenes of bombing practice out at sea -- huge explosions and old ships being targeted. The Ranger cruises past a bombed ship that is listing but hasn't yet sunk.

Dec. 1967 - On Yankee Station: You'll see crews preparing Phantoms and Intruders for take-off, an A4C Skyhawk firing afterburners, and all types of aircraft taking off and landing. There are scenes of replenishment activities with the fleet oiler USS Neches (AO-47), men loading bombs, and other flight deck activity.

The DVD has a soundtrack from a radio program recorded for the USO in Vietnam by Pittsburgh radio DJ Bob Harvey.
