SAIPAN & SAIGON
Vietnam War Home Movies

Color home movie footage filmed by Stephen D. Heleva, BUC, USN Seabees 1960 (Saipan), and HQ Support Activity Saigon (HSAS) 1964-1965.

You'll see scenes filmed at a military base on Saipan -- the construction of a large building or hangar, panning shots of the compound including Quonset style buildings and the CPO Club, and shots filmed while driving through the surrounding countryside and towns.

Vietnam footage includes Saigon street scenes, traffic, shops, pedestrians & bicylists, and panoramic shots of the city filmed from a balcony or rooftop.
There's approx 6 to 7 minutes of film showing the aftermath of the Brinks Hotel bombing that took place on December 24, 1964. The daylight footage shows building damage and destroyed cars, military and civilian personel going through the rubble, shots of the upper level balconies and extensive street level damage.
The movie concludes with footage filmed while in Hong Kong on R&R -- with shots of crowded streets, double-decker buses, a busy shopping district, and weird animal sculptures at Tiger Balm Gardens. Also includes panoramic shots of the harbor with ships and boat traffic.

The DVD has a soundtrack of AFVN radio shows.
