"TO THE TASK"
101st Abn, 426th S&S Bn, 1968-69

Color home movie footage filmed by a soldier serving with the 101st Abn, 426th Supply & Service Bn in Vietnam during 1968-69.

You'll see scenes filmed in the 426th compound -- a soldier washing a truck, aircraft overhead, helicopters circling with purple smoke from smoke grenades billowing out. There's footage of guys goofing off, standing around drinking beer and passing around a bottle of champagne. There are shots of the weapons bunker and men brandishing weapons -- an ax and an M-60 machinegun. One guy is proudly wearing a T-shirt with the message, "Visit Fascinating Vietnam -- Gun Capitol of the World". You'll see the guys hanging out in bunkers on the outskirts of the compound, and panoramic shots of the camp filmed from this area. There are some scenes of men loading crates onto trailers and securing the crates. Footage filmed on a road-trip into Saigon includes shots of the port area and lots of ships, and scenes filmed while driving through the countryside and past rubber plantations.
