You'll see footage of a camp set up in an area bordered by rocky hills, with tents and buildings, and some distant shots of aircraft flying overhead.
You'll visit Marseille and see ships in port, traffic and pedestrians in the streets, and panoramic shots over the city's rooftops looking out toward the islands in the harbor. The soldier films Notre Dame de la Garde and visits the Palais Longchamp -- where you'll see his friend give a mocking "Heil Hitler" salute from the balcony.
There is lengthy footage of a cruise around Marseille harbor in a small boat -- passing sunken ships and war wreckage on the shore, cruising among the Frioul Islands and going up for a close look at the Chateau d'If prison fortress.
Near Le Havre / Rouen you'll see the U.S. Army "Cigarette Camp" Philip Morris, with footage of the camp's facilities: the Roxy Theater, American Red Cross Club "Gay America", the 166th General Hospital's quonset hut buildings and signs, and more. There are shots of large groups of soldiers with their gear, waiting to board ships for either the Pacific Theater or for home, and then footage filmed onboard a ship as our cameraman heads for New York.
Other footage includes:
~soldiers standing by a Sherman tank
~Eglise Saint Vincent de Paul
~troop ship USS Gen. W.A. Mann (AP-112)
~transport ship "Santa Paula"
~men having fun at the beach
~soldier bringing a puppy home from France
~New York Harbor, ferries
... and more!
There are some sections of footage with a "crackle" effect in the background, caused by the age and condition of the original film stock.
