"YONGSAN SOLDIER, 1954-55"
Military Home Movies

Color home movie footage filmed by a soldier serving with the Eighth U.S. Army at Yongsan Garrison in the heart of Seoul, South Korea, shortly after the end of the Korean War.

You'll see scenes filmed in the barracks area, and footage of soldiers drilling and marching on the parade grounds and down the street. There are shots of soldiers interacting with a tame bear, probably the unit's mascot. One guy even rides on the bear's back like it's a pony.
You'll see shots of downtown Seoul -- it looks like some buildings are damaged and there are areas strewn with rubble. There are also shots of nice gardens and parkland surrounding temples and government buildings. There's footage of city traffic -- Jeeps, military trucks, streetcars, and civilian vehicles competing with pedestrians, and farmers pulling carts.
Back on base, you'll watch a water-show put on for the troops' entertainment -- women in a synchronized swimming act, hula dancers, a mermaid, comedy acts, diving routines, and more.
There are some panning shots of the countryside from a hilltop, shots of mountain-top statues wearing hats, and a Buddha shrine on the edge of a stream (in Kyonggi-do province).

Other footage includes:
~Korean men marching in a parade through the streets, with flags and banners
~panning shots of old brick buildings on the base
~Santa's sleigh, Nativity scene and other Christmas decorations set up outside base facilities
~winter scenes, with trucks sliding on a snowy road, and a funny snowman

The DVD has a soundtrack of 1950s era Radio shows.
